I’m looking forward to this fly-in! I noticed that you have the museum at Poplar Grove on the list of fly-out sites. That’s a very good one.

I don’t think it has a restaurant, but that would not be a problem if we flew from Poplar Grove to Lake Lawn just about 15 minutes northeast. The restaurants at Lake Lawn Lodge are excellent.

There is also the restaurant at the FBO at Sheboygan, but maybe that’s too close to Manitowoc — or it could be an alternate place to stop for lunch on the way back from Poplar Grove.

  3. Another fly-out possibility might be Lone Rock (LNR). There’s a restaurant right on the field and it’s in the rolling-hills part of Wisconsin.

  4. In case if anyone who wants to know where I will be, on July 30th Karl Kovach and I will be flying my C-172 from Louisville, Kentucky straight to Manitowoc airport and/or to Oshkosh depending on the weather. Most of us are thrilled to have at least three fly-outs on our DPA schedule to keep us real busy and fun. Of course we will give the participants to have a chance to fly-out with us. We will need to pray for good weather during this fly-in week. One note is about the very successful historic flight of Terrafugia last month. It is half-car and half aircraft and will be shown at Oskhkosh. Want to see it badly.
DPA and I strongly encourage all of you to attend this 2009 DPA Fly-In and we want to have good reunion.

  5. Pirep:

I landed at Lake Lawn Lodge yesterday, June 11. A LOT of grass and weeds (18 inches high in places) is growing in cracks all along the runway. If it’s not taken care of by the end of next month it will be like landing in a rain forest.

The runway IS being used — two Bonanzas, an Archer and a 172 were at the tiedowns.

Probably we better find out before landing what the conditions are on the runway at that time. If they sound poor, another place to stop for lunch on the way back from Poplar Grove might be Watertown, which has half a dozen restaurants, mostly fast food, within a very short walk of the FBO.
